On August 3, 2026, at the 8th Asia Conference on Business and Economic Studies (ACBES 2026) organized by the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES), Mr. Dang Ngoc Quang – a PhD candidate from the Lincoln Joint PhD Programme, presented his research titled “Rewarding Resilience, Mispricing Exposure: Climate Risk and Sovereign Borrowing Costs in Emerging ASEAN”.

PhD candidate Dang Ngoc Quang presenting his research at ACBES 2026 International Conference
During the session, PhD candidate Dang Ngoc Quang received valuable academic feedback and contributions from international scholars regarding the theoretical framework, research design, and the publication readiness of the paper.
The study addresses a highly pressing question in the current global context: does the international financial market truly integrate climate risks into calculating borrowing costs for Southeast Asian governments?
The empirical findings presented by Dang Ngoc Quang highlight a core takeaway: the international financial market consistently tends to reward national adaptive capacity rather than merely penalize climate risk exposure. Nations demonstrating strong institutional capacity and higher adaptability enjoy lower sovereign borrowing costs on international markets. The financial market primarily reacts to a country’s long-term structural capabilities rather than isolated, recent natural disaster events.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Quang is currently a first-year PhD candidate in the Joint PhD Programme between UEH and the University of Lincoln
Dang Ngoc Quang’s engaging presentation not only showcased the academic research capability of candidates from the Lincoln Joint PhD Programme, but also contributed a valuable, practical scientific perspective to this year’s ACBES 2026 Conference.
