On August 29, 2026, the Institute of Business Research (IBR) organized an Info Session to introduce the Joint Doctoral Program between UEH and the University of Huddersfield (UK).

The event was attended by Prof. Vo Xuan Vinh – Director of the Institute of Business Research and Head of the Program Management Board; Prof. Abhijit Sharma – Director of Strategic Partnerships at Huddersfield Business School; along with lecturers, researchers, and prospective candidates.

Overview of the Info Session

In his opening remarks, Prof. Vo Xuan Vinh shared that the program aims to enhance deep cooperation between the two leading educational institutions, thereby strongly promoting joint research activities and elevating international academic quality. He emphasized that this is an in-person training program where PhD candidates will engage in academic life and conduct research directly at the UEH campus, fully equipped with modern facilities, libraries, and research database systems.

Representing the University of Huddersfield, Prof. Abhijit Sharma stated that upon officially joining the program, PhD candidates will be recognized as students of both universities and enjoy full academic benefits. Specifically, he noted that candidates have the right to study directly in the UK with no time restriction. Students will be provided with professional workspaces at the 200-year-old Doctoral College building, alongside opportunities to present their research at annual academic summer conferences.

A key highlight of the program is the co-supervision model featuring faculty members from both UEH and the University of Huddersfield. Through this, PhD candidates gain access to international research methodologies and academic perspectives while grounding their topics in the Vietnamese research context and practice.

Regarding initial research proposal preparation, Prof. Abhijit Sharma highlighted that proposals must clearly define the research gap, articulate incremental contributions, and particularly ensure data feasibility, avoiding data collection plans that are overly difficult to access. Concerning graduation requirements, the program does not mandate pre-defense journal publications.
