Academics across Vietnam are increasingly under pressure to publish their research, especially in international journals.

At the event Writing for international journal publication, RMIT Vietnam’s Head of School of Business & Management Associate Professor Mathews Nkhoma shared his academic publishing experience with a group of early-career researchers.

Associate Professor Nkhoma, a respected academic in the fields of commerce and management with more than 80 current and forthcoming publications – including several award-winning papers, outlined the steps researchers need to take to get published.

He encouraged participants to aim high: “When you want to target a very good channel, think about the paper itself.”

“If you think it is a good paper, go ahead and push it out. Because this is the only way you can get feedback from top reviewers…push yourself, think high, aim high. I can guarantee within the next three years you will be in there.”

Associate Professor Nkhoma delivered a keynote speech before joining a panel discussion with three local scholars including: Associate Professor Vo Xuan Vinh, Dean of Institute of Business Research, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Dr Dang Le Hoa, Lecturer at Faculty of Economics, Nong Lam University; and Dr Nguyen Hong Quang, Head of Office of Research and Development, International University – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

The workshop, on 14 October, saw the attendance of more than 40 alumni of Australian universities. The workshop was the second event on the same topic, and similar events will be organised in other provinces.
