Programme Objectives

The University of Leicester’s doctoral programme is designed to develop highly qualified researchers with advanced theoretical knowledge, applied research expertise, and the ability to generate innovative solutions to complex real-world challenges.

Programme Delivery

The programme is jointly delivered by the University of Leicester (UK) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), with clearly defined responsibilities for each institution.

University of Leicester

• Evaluates research proposals and conducts admission interviews.
• Makes final admission decisions.
• Delivers the taught modules.
• Provides primary doctoral supervision.
• Appoints and administers the thesis examination committee.
• Awards the Doctor of Social Science (DSocSci) degree.

University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH)

• Manages recruitment and admissions in Vietnam.
• Supports applicants in developing their research proposals.
• Participates in the admission interview process.
• Provides teaching assistants for programme modules.
• Offers co-supervision throughout the doctoral research.
• Recommends academic members for the thesis examination committee.
• Provides scholarships or tuition support for eligible candidates.

Language of Instruction

All teaching, learning, research activities, thesis writing, and the doctoral viva are conducted entirely in English.

Study Mode

The programme is offered on a part-time and flexible basis, allowing candidates to balance doctoral study with their professional careers.

Programme Duration

The standard duration of the programme is 48 months from the date of enrolment. Candidates may apply for an extension of up to 24 additional months, resulting in a maximum candidature period of 72 months.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of seven taught modules followed by an independent doctoral thesis, with a total of 450 academic credits.

Degree Awarded

Upon successful completion of all programme requirements, graduates are awarded the Doctor of Social Science (DSocSci) degree by the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

Academic Supervision

Each doctoral candidate is supervised by a team of experienced academics from both the University of Leicester and UEH. Supervisors are appointed based on the candidate’s research area to ensure high-quality academic guidance and research support throughout the programme.
