The 31st ASIAN FINANCE ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING

The AsianFA annual conference provided an open platform for finance scholars and practitioners worldwide to meet and share their recent research and exchange ideas and information on new developments in finance research. We looked forward to a high-quality conference. The majority of the sessions included papers selected through open competition. The papers were double blind-reviewed by a committee of established researchers.

Conference Theme

Papers in all areas of finance were welcome, including but not limited to asset pricing, corporate finance, corporate governance, derivatives, financial crisis, financial intermediation, international finance, sustainable finance and market microstructure. Accepted papers are eligible for several categories of best paper awards as shown below, which will be selected by various Award Committees.

From the 7th to 9th July 2019, the 31st Meeting of the Asian Financial Association, which is famous for two journals including the International Review of Finance published by Wiley and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal published by Elsevier, was organized at UEH. This is an annual seminar held on a large scale at 20 plus universities in the Asia-Pacific region. UEH warmly welcomed 3 editors of the world's leading journals, nearly 300 speakers, scientists, which includes about 250 international delegates. In 2019, UEH was honored to hold the conference marking the first time an International Conference of the Asian Financial Association in Vietnam. It has been a pleasure for IBR to host this workshop.

The success of the Conference is clearly shown through numbers such as more than 530 entries, 180 selected articles, 48 ​​parallel seminars sections were taken place in 2 days, 8 best papers were awarded Best Paper Award. The conference will offer multiple categories of best paper awards of USD1000. The awards will be sponsored by Asian Finance Association, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and other professional associations.

At the same time, the Workshop was honored to welcome 2 keynote speakers:

Professor David M REEB

David Reeb is a Professor of Finance and holds the Mr. and Mrs. Lin Jo Yan Professorship in Banking and Finance in the Department of Finance at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. Dr. Reeb also serves as a Senior Fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research (ABFER), a Fellow of the Academy of International Business, and as the Director of Business Doctoral Programs at NUS.

Professor Michelle Lowry

Michelle is the TD Bank Professor of Finance at the LeBow School of Business, Drexel University, and the Academic Director of the Institute for Corporate Governance at the University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Rochester and was previously a professor at Penn State University. In addition, she is a past visiting professor at INSEAD and at the Wharton School. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Economics, a past associate editor of the Review of Financial Studies, and a founding member of AFFECT (Academic Female Finance Committee), which strives for gender equality among the field of finance academics.

The AsianFA 2019 conference was successful with considerable good results, marking UEH's progress in furthering its academic research and access to international resources to become a highly ranked university not only in the region but also in the world.
