05/07/2022
On the afternoon of July 4, 2022, the Institute for Business Research of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, organized a scientific workshop titled "Potential and Current Status of MICE Tourism Development in Can Tho City'.

(Workshop Overview)
The workshop aimed to assess the current status and potential of MICE tourism (which includes tourism combined with conferences, seminars, exhibitions, event organization, and incentive travel for employees and partners) in Can Tho.
According to the presentation by MSc. Nguyen Thi Nhat Linh, a researcher at the Institute for Business Research, from 2016 to 2020, Can Tho welcomed over 35 million visitors, with total revenue reaching 16.1 trillion VND, reflecting an average growth rate of 19% per year during this period. As of June 2022, Can Tho has more than 600 accommodation establishments, offering over 11,000 rooms, and 61 travel companies, thereby meeting the demand for MICE tourism development. However, the average length of stay in Can Tho has not exceeded 2 days, visitor spending remains low, and the rate of return visitors is also low.
Based on the analysis of the current status and potential of MICE tourism in Can Tho, the research group proposed various appropriate solutions, suggested a pilot model, and outlined strategies for scaling up the MICE tourism model. The participants also shared solutions regarding unique tourism products, the development of tourism infrastructure, promotional activities, event organization, human resources, and service linkage chains.
