Institute of Business Research Organizes Online Workshop: “Current Status of the Digital Economy in Vietnam and Development Orientation”

This morning, at 8:30 AM on June 5, 2021, the Institute of Business Research of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City held an online workshop titled “Current Status of the Digital Economy in Vietnam and Development Orientation.” The event featured the participation of Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh, Director of the Business Research Institute, Dr. Tran Dang Khoa, Head of the Institute's strong research group, along with over 70 faculty members, scholars, and graduate students interested in the topic.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh expressed gratitude to the attendees and pledged that the Institute would organize more workshops in the future to facilitate discussions on prominent issues within the field of economics.
The Research Group on Applications in Socio-Economics reported on the following topics:
Overview of the Digital Economy in Vietnam presented by Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Thuan, focusing on infrastructure and supportive policies for the digital economy in Vietnam, providing a comprehensive picture of the current state and prospects of the digital economy from 2021 to 2025, with a vision towards 2030.
Trends in the Digital Economy and Forecasts presented by Ms. Nguyen Phan Truc Phuong and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, discussing Vietnam’s adaptation to the rapid developments in digital technologies such as Blockchain, IoT (Internet of Things), VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and Big Data.
Potential for Development in Vietnam presented by Mr. Truong Minh Vu, showcasing data and evidence that Vietnam is rapidly transforming through the adoption of new digital technologies: fintech, digital banking, e-government, e-commerce, sharing economy, and smart healthcare.
Central Bank Digital Currency presented by Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai, providing an overview and policy recommendations regarding digital currencies issued by central banks, including current practices in various countries.
Building E-Government in the Context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution presented by Ms. Vo Thi Thu Thao and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, discussing the overview of e-government, experiences from global e-government initiatives, lessons learned, and recommendations for developing e-government in Vietnam.
The workshop featured lively discussions between faculty members, attendees, and speakers, particularly on the topics of Central Bank Digital Currency and E-Government, which are currently hot issues of interest.
