On August 1, the Institute of Business Research successfully held the seminar titled “The Role of SMEs in Vietnam's Economic Development,” with participation from 27 esteemed faculty members, students, and business representatives.

Opening the seminar, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, on behalf of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, warmly welcomed and thanked the experts and researchers from the university and various businesses for attending the seminar titled "The Role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Economic Development: Lessons for Vietnam."

Three speakers presented on the following topics:

  1. Speaker: MSc. Mai Xuan Duc presented on Topic 1: "Characteristics of Small and Medium Enterprises."

  2. Speaker: MSc. Nguyen Phan Truc Phuong presented on Topic 2: "The Role of Small and Medium Enterprises in Economic Development."

  3. Speaker: Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh presented on Topic 3: "Development Orientation for Small and Medium Enterprises - Lessons for Vietnam."

The seminar focused on the experiences of developing SMEs in the new normal and highlighted the challenges of technological innovation in the context of international economic integration. The need for catalysts to enhance the effectiveness and speed of innovation processes was emphasized. Building a development plan without forecasting technological advancements can hinder market access, product development, and expansion.

In addition to the achievements, SMEs face inherent limitations such as access to loans, management capacity, difficulties in obtaining production inputs, and challenges in accessing policies.

During the seminar, attendees engaged in lively discussions, and the speakers provided comprehensive answers to the concerns raised by businesses. This clarified the significant role of SMEs in the national economy and helped define support measures and strategies. The discussions also identified opportunities and challenges for the development of SMEs in Vietnam amid rapidly changing regional and global contexts.

Through this seminar, the Business Research Institute at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City aims to organize more discussions on economic issues and enhance training efforts that contribute to the development of Vietnamese scientific products to reach global standards.
